Crush

When it gets hot here, it just gets unbearably hot. It's like the kind of hot where every article of clothing you put on just makes you want to cry. Ok, dramatic..but.. it's been seriously hot here lately.

We had a little barbecue/ get together on the rooftop and this is what I wore. Everyone was either in a bathing suit or something more lacking. I stuck to keeping it casual in a cute crop top and my favorite skater skirt from Nastygal. I love the little retro vibe of it. I felt like I was about to head to the beach circa 1950's or something like that. It was a lot of color for me.. as I usually stick to neutrals and mostly black, i'll be honest. But! It turned out to be a cute outfit and I'm loving this new crop top.

I only wish I could wear my hair down without it basically melting and poofing into a giant hair fluff ball!

Union Square (Lazy Twins Giveaway!!)

One of my favorite places to prance around in NYC is Union Square.. most "native" new yorkers don't seem to ever want to mess with it because several times I've heard it called the "mini times square".. However, I really like the area and the energy of the park is a nice change from being in constant (what feels like) lethargy, back home. And believe me... I don't mess with Times Square, either.

Anyway, This is typical weekend attire. I added a touch of camel with the accessories instead of the usual black.. paired them with one of my favorite skirts and a new black hat. I teamed up with an up & coming brand from San Francisco called "Lazy Twins" and they are the producer of this adorable open back/ intricate front top. It has very tiny gold studs all over the fabric and I feel totally cute in it.

Lazy Twins happens to be doing a fun giveaway where you can win a lovely summer blouse (like the one I'm wearing) from Lazy Twins!

Grit

I've been going through this phase where I've been pairing boots with pretty much everything. I think it is because the streets here are so grimy & uneven they are destroying all my pretty shoes.. No bother.. I finally broke down and bought some actual Doc Martens.. I have a plum colored pair that are eons old but I've always wanted the classic black pair.

Anyway! I just found this outfit to be pretty fun and I really enjoy the denim vest with the ripped leopard patches.. very rock and roll. I found some more hats this weekend to add to my collection so you all can stop being bored to death by my maroon bowler hat (haha). Honestly, it was an outfit of basics mixed in with a statement vest and a dark plum lip color a la Courtney Love (whom everyone seems to think that I resemble .. hopefully pre-drug days).

Hope you all have a fabulous week xo!!

At Dusk

Sunsets over Brooklyn have become my saving grace after long days at work.. nothing like watching the people of the city come alive again, and head out again for whatever it is that New Yorkers do at those hours.

This is a sample of the kind of things I wear around the city, or even to work. I am lucky that we are allowed to dress as we please and express ourselves as we so desire, no dress code really. Everyone dresses fabulously in a building that contains Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, etc..

Now that denim overalls are everywhere again, I felt comfortable feeling like I stepped back into the 90's. I found this pair at a Vintage Flea Market a couple of weekends ago and I'd say they were quite an excellent find.. The tee is just a casual staple and the heels that make my feet appear architecturally bound are also rather new.. and rather difficult to walk in.. but they are beautiful, right?

Brooklyn Babe

A Short little post for you guys today! Something I wore romping around the Williamsburg Flea Market last weekend when the weather was a little fickle and decided to revert back into the 50's.. then the 80's.. then the 70's.. I don't understand! Anyway, it is a little difficult right now with my intensely busy work schedule and being without my regular photographer. But, I'm sure you all understand and I promise I'll get a hang of the NYC time management thing ASAP. I plan on taking LOTS of pics this weekend (just make this rain go away for me).

I just paired one of my favorite colorful shawls with a cropped sweater and some high rise jeans.. a great formula for a cute outfit if you have several color/pattern variations of those specific items.. it's one of my "go-to" "no-fail" type of outfits. I just add little unique accessories like a fringey bag and some gold sandals & a hat here and there.

Would you be interested in seeing me blog my daily activities here in NYC? I feel like I may just start carrying my camera around at all times (I know I may start to look obnoxious but I do not mind). I could incorporate a day at my internship (what it's like to work at a magazine as a fashion intern).. I could do a weekend day.. a day in Brooklyn.. Let me know of your suggestions and if that is something you think will be interesting! I'll still mix traditional outfit posts in there of course.. Let me know!!
